MDG 7: ENSURE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

 

Environmental degradation is escalating rapidly at the national and global level. VISWA envisions combat this problem. VISWA is responsible for the protection, conservation, rehabilitation and improvement of the environment; the prevention and control of pollution; and promotion of sustainable development.

Climate change is taking place all over the globe and Pakistan is also changing its environment. River flood of 2010 and sky flood of 2011 in Sindh came with huge destruction and loss of lives and properties. VISWA takes environmental problems in its programs because these are affecting the lives of rural and most vulnerable segments of society in the remote rural areas. VISWA is going to design comprehensive programs to mitigate the destruction by action, research, capacity building and awareness campaigns. Active role played by VISWA has given it the coordination in district Matiari of the “Sindh Disaster Response Forum (SRDF)” SRDF is the main network of the major CSOs working in disaster management in Sindh.

 

VISWA Approach to Environmental Protection

VISWAis building on its successes with the environment through reliable and effective regulations, legislation and high-quality service delivery. VISWA sustains qualitative and quantitative standards for the discharge of effluents, wastes, air emissions or noise either for general applicability or for a particular area and other standards established under the laws, rules and regulations. In this regard VISWA is committed with the objectives:

 

Natural Resource Management: Natural Resource Promotion, Awareness and Education of available natural resources to communities through active community participation and To Strengthen District Forestry Systems through improvement in technical and managerial capacity at all levels.

 

Healthy Environment Awareness: To Aware and Train through Seminars, Workshops and literary documents to communities through active participation about health effects of good healthy environment and sustainable Development.

 

Tree Plantation: To aware community that for sustain development and healthy environment the basic need is Tree Plantation.

 

Agricultural Reforms: to Educate and Aware by seminars and discussion program with GLAs for improving of Agricultural system, to make precious livelihood for life.

 

RESULTS ACHIEVED

VISWA work in partnerships with a broad coalition of Civil Society organizations CSOs, Community Based organizations CBOs,District Forestry Department and development agencies such as, Strengthening Participatory Organization SPO, Civil Society Support Program CSSP and South Asia Partnership Pakistan SAP-PK, Following Results has been achieved:

 

  • Conduct07 Awareness sessions of Environmental Protection with rural community living in kacha areas of Indus River besides District Matiari. (Total beneficiaries: 103)
  • Conduct11 awareness sessions with the students of schools and colleges for “Tree Plantations” of District Matiari. (Total beneficiaries: 2523)
  • 01 Seminar on “Environmental Changing Patterns” in District Matiari. (Total participants: 173)
  • 02Dialogue on “Disaster Management” with active CSOs and CBOs of Hala and Matiari Talukas of District Matiari. (Total participants: 84)
  • Published5000 Pamphlets on “Environment Protection” and distributed in District Matiari, including schools, colleges etc.
  • Arrange 02 Walks of school children on “saving and protecting natural resources” in Hala and Matiari Talukas of District Matiari.
